About Springhaus
Craft shaped by
patience.
A small studio in Melaka where watches are treated as precision instruments and personal objects — never just repair tickets.
← Back to HomeThe Springhaus Story
Springhaus began quietly — a bench, a loupe, and an unwillingness to rush. The studio opened in Melaka after its founder spent years learning movement anatomy through old reference manuals and long nights with stubborn calibres that refused to be hurried into cooperation.
The name borrows from the German word for mainspring — the coiled heart of a mechanical movement. It felt appropriate. Everything a watch does flows from that single, carefully wound source of energy. Everything Springhaus does flows from a similarly concentrated place: the belief that good watchsmithing is methodical, unhurried, and deeply respectful of what it's working on.
We are based at 33 Jalan Laksamana in Melaka's heritage quarter — a setting that suits us. Old streets, old crafts, and a certain slowness that the work itself demands.

Our Mission & Values
Three principles that shape every decision we make — at the bench and away from it.
Transparency
We explain what we find, what we'll do, and what it costs — before any work begins. Clients are never surprised by a bill or an outcome.
Patience
Mechanical watchmaking resists shortcuts. We take the time each movement requires — not the time that would be most convenient for us.
Integrity
If a watch doesn't need a service, we say so. If a repair isn't something we can do well, we acknowledge that too. Honesty serves a watch better than enthusiasm.
The Team
Small by choice. Every watch that enters Springhaus is handled by one of these three people.
Farouk Hasanuddin
Founder & Lead Watchsmith
Farouk has worked with mechanical movements for over twelve years, with particular experience in Swiss lever escapements and automatic winding systems. He evaluates every incoming piece before assigning it to the appropriate service.
Lim Kheng Wah
Movement Technician
Kheng Wah handles disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, and regulated reassembly for automatic movement reconditioning. He has a background in precision engineering and applies that rigour to movement work.
Nadia Rozaini
Client Relations & Documentation
Nadia manages communications, service documentation, and coordinates vintage consultations. She ensures that every client understands the process and receives clear written records of the work performed.
Standards We Work To
Each service at Springhaus follows documented protocols drawn from horological practice and refined through years of bench experience.
Six-Position Regulation
Automatic movements are regulated in six positions (crown up, crown down, dial up, dial down, crown left, crown right) to bring timing within ±10 seconds per day.
Pressure & Vacuum Testing
All water resistance work is verified with both vacuum and wet pressure tests before a certificate is issued. Testing apparatus is calibrated regularly.
Period-Correct Lubricants
We use Swiss-formulated watchmaking lubricants applied in calibrated micro-quantities at the correct points within each movement.
Pre- & Post-Service Documentation
Condition notes are taken on arrival and updated on completion. Every client receives written records covering what was done and why.
Client Data Privacy
Watch details and client information are held securely and not shared with third parties. Records are retained only as long as needed for service purposes.
12-Month Workmanship Period
We stand behind the work performed. If an issue arises directly from our service within twelve months, we address it at no additional cost.
Horological craft in the heart of Melaka
The watch repair and maintenance field in Malaysia demands a particular kind of practitioner — one who understands both the heritage of European movement design and the realities of South-East Asian climate conditions. High humidity, salt air near the coast, and frequent temperature shifts create conditions that accelerate lubricant degradation and gasket wear. Springhaus approaches each service with these environmental factors in mind.
Automatic movement work is the most technically involved service we offer. A self-winding movement contains between 130 and 350 individual components depending on calibre. Each requires careful handling, appropriate lubrication, and correct reassembly sequence. Rushing this process introduces errors that may not manifest for months.
Water resistance, often taken for granted, is a maintenance item rather than a permanent property. Gaskets harden and shrink over time; even a watch rated to 100 metres may allow water ingress after several years without re-sealing. For watches worn during water activities in Malaysia — swimming, diving, rain exposure — this service warrants attention on a regular cycle.
Vintage and inherited watches occupy a different space. Many arrive without documentation, with replaced parts, or in original-but-worn condition. The consultation service at Springhaus creates a starting point: what this watch is, what condition it is in, and what, if anything, should be done about it. This knowledge is valuable regardless of the watch's monetary worth.
